awards season

For the last four days, I’ve been laid up in bed battling an epic cold bug that’s been going around. Twice I tried to go into the office and both times I was sent home to rest by lunchtime. Harumph. On the upside, I’ve been catching up on some of the films and performances that are in contention for the 2015 awards season.

Every year, my mom and I try to see as many of the nominated movies as possible before the awards are presented – it’s so much more fun to watch the shows when you have an opinion! Awards season officially kicks off on Sunday, when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (!!!!!!) host the Golden Globes for the third time. So far, I’ve seen 6 of the 10 nominated films (The Theory of Everything, Boyhood, The Imitation Game, Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel (which is on Netflix!), and St. Vincent), but I have some work to do on the best actor/actress performances. The Best Actor in a Drama category is especially competitive this year, so I really want to watch Steve Carrell’s performance in Foxcatcher to see how he stacks up against Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything and Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game. I also want to see Still Alice (Julianne Moore), Wild (Reese Witherspoon), Into the Woods (Best Picture, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt) and Gone Girl (Rosamund Pike).  You can see the full list of nominees here.

Will you be watching the Golden Globes on Sunday? Any standout favorite films or performances? I’m also hoping the Netflix series House of Cards takes home an award or two!
