base camp brewing

Stars l TWELFTH AVENUE

Since returning from holiday break, Allen and I have settled back into our weekly routine, which doesn’t always allow a lot of time together. So to spend a little quality time last weekend, I suggested heading over to Base Camp Brewing in SE. I had done some reading online and talked to my beer connoisseur friends who said it was a must try, and they were right! The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, and on a blustery, stormy day there was no where else I’d rather be.

We tried everything on tap, and ordered some shawarma fries and hummus from Gonzo food cart parked outside. We settled into our corner booth for a few hours, three to be exact, and enjoyed the hoppy tastes brewed up by brewmaster Justin Fay, brewer Paul Thurston and Austin Kneen. There is something so delicious about a really tasty beer and comfort food.

Base Camp really nails it with their ambiance. Mountain themed table numbers, boulder studded tables, chair backs made of climbing rope and lanterns strung from the ceiling made it unique and inviting. It reminded me that there are so many places to explore in Portland. We will be back, Base Camp.
