brunch at verde cocina

I almost don’t want to tell you about this one…

I almost want to keep it to myself as a dirty little not-so-secret but not-so-public-that-I-have-to-wait neighborhood brunch spot with the best huevos rancheros I have ever had

But sharing is caring, right? And what’s the point of a blog if not to share exciting discoveries, culinary or otherwise? Please just promise me that if ever there is a long wait and you see my name at the bottom of the list you’ll distract the host and stealthily cross off a few of the names above mine.

Verde Cocina is a farmer’s market stand turned restaurant that recently took over the Kin space on NW 14th and Glisan. A couple of weekends ago, Phil and I moseyed up there for Sunday brunch with high expectations. They were exceeded.

I had heard great things about the food at Verde Cocina, so it came as no surprise that my huevos rancheros, piled high with fresh market vegetables and a white bean-garbanzo mash, were seriously delicious. What I wasn’t expecting were the flavorful cocktails (if grapefruits are in season, order the Paloma), light-filled dining space, and cake so fluffy and luscious I could have eaten three slices. Excellent meal from top to bottom.
